BIM Pirate & Piratess Codex
We be the BIM Pirates, and we’re here to upend the establishment! No more dogma, no more rules fer the sake o’ rules—just projects that run faster, smoother, and deliver real value.
BIM’s become stale, stuck in the mud even before it reached the mainstream.
It’s weighed down by dogma, bogged down by rules, and cut off from what
really matters—creating value. Whether it’s the Anglo-Saxon lot
preachin’ Revit or the European scallywags obsessed with ISO19650,
they’ve all lost sight of the real treasure: making projects better,
faster, and more efficient.
Our core values
Freedom from Dogma
We don’t follow rules just because they exist—we challenge 'em!
Client-Centered Results
Our focus is on creatin' value, not sellin' hours.
Workflows over Tools
It’s the way ye sail that matters, not the ship ye use.
Set Yer Sails for True Value
The real reason ye resist change, matey, is the business model
yer crew sails under. Be ye earnin' doubloons by creatin’ value for yer client or just sellin’ yer hours like a common deckhand? If it’s the latter, change yer tack! Profit from results, not time—or ye’ll be forever swabbin’ decks.
BIM Be a Skill, Not a Rank
BIM ain’t a fancy title to hand out like rations—it’s a skill every crew member must master. From the captain to the lowliest swab, BIM be essential to survivin’ on these digital seas. Learn it, live it, or be left ashore.
No Such Thing as a ‘BIM Project’
There be no such thing as a “BIM project,” ye scurvy dogs! There be only projects where BIM be one o’ the many tools in yer chest. It’s not a type o' job—it’s a way o' doin' things better, arrr!
BIM Starts with the Ship's Course
BIM starts with yer own needs,
savvy?
Clients, figure what treasure ye need at the end o' the voyage -be it fewer risks, better quality, or more doubloons saved.
Planners, ye be there to help navigate and guide decision-makin'.
Builders, speak up—tell us how ye want things simpler, faster, and truer!
Hack Yer Tools, Don’t Let ‘Em Chain Ye
Tools made for drawin' plans ain’t enough, mateys—they be the cause o' inefficiency! Hack 'em for better decision-makin' and to build faster.
Ye need a change o' thinkin'— think like a hacker, work like a master craftsman. Use SketchUp’s ease, Tekla’s precision, and Cadworks’ wood-craftin’ magic as inspiration!
Choose Yer Maps Wisely
2D ain’t the enemy—the fight against it is just a distraction. The first question be: how do ye best get yer message across? The second: how do ye craft this map with the least effort? Ye might need a sketch, a model, a 2D map, or even a comic strip—choose what works best to steer the crew right.
Standardize the Workflow, Not the Form
Don’t believe the lie that every project be unique, matey. While yer ships may change, and the ports ye visit may differ, yer processes and tools can stay the same. Standardize the workflow, not the form—this be the key to consistency and treasure in any storm!
Defend Yer Processes with Grit
When someone messes with yer efficient processes, tell 'em to walk the plank! Don’t model the way the client demands, and don’t be adjustin’ yer well-proven workflows. Just convert yer loot (data) at the end, else ye’ll be bleedin’ doubloons faster than ye can count 'em.
Set Clear Expectations, Not Orders
When ye depend on another’s data, don’t tell ‘em how to work—tell ‘em what ye need delivered.
Set clear expectations, ask only for what they can reasonably provide, and ensure they have a stake in the outcome. Otherwise, ye’ll be buried
in useless crap, matey.
The Code of the BIM Pirate
Support yer fellow pirates, whether they be on yer ship or another. The fight ain't among us—it’s against the establishment that be holdin' us back. Raise yer flags together and fight for better ways, not more models.
So, me hearties, follow these BIM Pirate Codex and sail the digital seas
with purpose. Remember, the battle ain’t about fancy models—it’s about makin’ things better fer the next matey to take the helm. The revolution begins with ye!
